Law & Parliamentary Affairs
The Law & Prosecution Department serves as the Government's central agency for legislative drafting and parliamentary affairs. It examines and vets draft Bills submitted by Administrative Departments, ensures their legal and constitutional validity, and prepares legislation in proper legal form for consideration by the Cabinet and the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
The Department coordinates official legislative business, processes official and non-official Bills, amendments, resolutions, and motions, facilitates the introduction and passage of legislation in the Assembly, and processes enacted Bills for the assent of the Governor. Following assent, the Department publishes Acts in the Official Gazette and issues notifications regarding the adaptation and circulation of laws enacted by the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly, the Prime Minister, and the Federal Government. It also initiates summaries for summoning Assembly sessions and provides legal support throughout the legislative process.
